Kick Morning Sickness to the Curb!

Morning sickness, or often thought of as all-day sickness, is one of the least popular symptoms of pregnancy. For many women, it can often seem that there's no way to stop nausea from taking over your life. Luckily, there are some easy, natural morning sickness remedies that might help both prevent nausea and cure it once it's taken hold of your life.

Ginger

My biggest tips for preventing morning sickness are as follows:

  • Ginger
  • Getting enough sleep
  • Change your eating patterns
  • Eliminate offensive smells
  • Try a different prenatal pill
  • Try acupuncture or acupressure
  • Aromatherapy scents

Superheroine Food of the Month: Peaches

Superheroine for Newsletter

Most of the time when people think of superfoods, they think of the more obscure fruits that come from distant countries and cost and arm and a leg. What they might not know is that there are actually superfoods right under their nose and ready to pick up almost any time of year.

Of course, this month's superfood, the peach, will taste best when it comes from a local farm when it's in season. Depending on what hemisphere you live in, you will most likely find the freshest peaches when the warm summer months have reached a peak and until they just start to cool.

So, are you wondering what exactly makes the peach a superfood? Read to learn about the health benefits of peaches and to find out why every Superheroine Vegan Momma should eat them when pregnant, lactating, and when raising their little vegans-in-the-making.

Question: "Does eating fruit spike blood sugar levels?"

Question

Question:

Sam from Tennessee submitted a question about blood sugar levels and fruit's ability to cause them to spike. For some reason, her doctors are recommending she limit her fruit intake, but telling her she can have as much meat and dairy as she likes. The idea of fruit being filled with sugar is a common worry for people who are interested in being healthy, but aren't quite sure how to eat that way.

Fortunately, though fruit technically has a lot of sugar in it, it's incredibly different than the sugar that comes in packets at the coffee shop, and from that baked into pastries, and even from the sugar that comes in the form of refined carbohydrates like white pasta and bread.

Learn about whether eating fruits will increase your blood sugar levels here.

Recipe of the Month: Raw Gingerbread Cookies

As we learned about earlier, ginger is excellent for settling stomachaches, and can be crucial for pregnancy to prevent or cure morning sickness. It will always be more effective when it is as whole as possible, so I love to use it in raw recipes.

This is a quick, simple alternative to the expensive raw food bars you can get at health food stores, and it makes a ton of cookies. They require almost no thinking, so they're great for pregnancy brain. And, what's even better is that there's nothing in them that should make you feel bad for eating cookies at breakfast. You could even keep a stash of them by your bed to curb the nausea before it takes hold.

Check out the full vegan gingerbread cookies recipe here.
